Lakeway Hangar
This hangar was added to an existing residence off the private Lakeway airfield. Access to the runway is simply through the rear yard. The basic plan, designed by the homeowner, came to me for further advancement and finalization to meet the Lakeway Building Commission strict guidelines. Approval from this Commission was necessary prior to submittal for permitting. Materiality, height, color, vegetation, and impervious cover were just a few of the judged criteria to meet Lakeway building standards. During this process, bidding & costing was presented to the Owners for analysis and a feasibility-check. Decisions were made to do some work personally, more bids were acquired, and some design elements eliminated in order to meet their specified budget.
Once the permit was acquired, Suzanne, of Cormier & Rose Architects, Inc., contracted this concrete floored, steel framed addition. Extensive waterproofing was applied both to the existing house at the area of attachment as well as the perimeter of the hangar due to its' elevation being 6' below that of the house. The central column is a standard 'Clopay' hangar door track and is easily removed to allow entry and exit for the working aircraft.
The hangar serves as both parking for a working craft with access to a runway and as a full shop complete with kitchenette for the design and build of homemade aircraft. The photos were taken by the owners on our behalf.
